:: summer blues | outfit #4 ::

Surprisingly, this summer blues outfit isn’t made up of solely the color blue! This cool-toned combo is perfect for an outfit that requires little styling or planning. These easy pieces are great summer staples for me, because when I want to wear something that has some visual interest but don’t want to think about pattern mixing and new color combos, this graphic tee is my go-to. Plus, I love pieces that I can get tons of use out of. This tee has been part of my mama uniform, but it’s also been dressed up for date night. This really has me thinking…more graphic tees just may be in my fashion future.

Okay I’m going to be real with you. It took me forever and a day just to decide whether or not to post these outfit pictures. Because quite frankly, I’m not a fan. Sometimes I have those days where my clothes feel weird, my hair won’t lay right, or my face just seems like it’s doing something strange. When I went through the pictures of this outfit, I realized this was apparently one of those days. Please tell me I’m not the only one and this happens to you, too. It does, right?? But I love the skirt so much I just had to share it now. Remember in this post when I mentioned my mother-in-law helping me transform one of my old dresses into a skirt? Well here it is. I could not love this print any more than I already do! While all of these pieces are older items, I hope you can draw some inspiration from the floral + feminine vibe.

:: summer blues | outfit #3 ::

In honor of the upcoming holiday this weekend, today’s outfit post is inspired by the 4th of July! I’ve been so obsessed with blue lately (as you know if you’ve been following this series), and I could hardly think of a better occasion to go completely overboard with it. The stars on this tee add an extra patriotic touch, I think. The funny thing about this tee is that it’s actually maternity. I learned while I was pregnant that Gap’s only real criteria to consider something a “maternity” piece was basically adding a little extra length. Or some gathering on the sides. None of the Gap maternity pieces I purchased even fit all the way through my 2nd trimester. But hey, I can wear them post-pregnancy without looking pregnant, so I guess that’s still a win. The extra length on this tee makes it perfect for knotting at the waist which has been one of my favorite ways to wear my tops this summer, and I’ve found that cute little tees are perfect for mom-on-the-go outfits!

:: one in every color, please! ::

I have fallen in love with this top. When I say I want one in every color, I mean I literally want this top in every single color they make it in. I would live in it if I could. Lounge in it, wear it casually, dress it up…you name it. It’s just that comfortable and just that versatile. Sometimes it’s easier to just keep an outfit simple. This is the perfect outfit for me when it comes to running quick errands. An easy tee thrown on with some jeggings and my beloved floral sneakers. Comfy casual, and I still feel put together. Doesn’t get much better than that!

I love this outfit. I L-O-V-E this outfit! Mostly because I made the kimono cardigan myself. That’s right…I made it! With my own two hands. It’s not perfect by any means, but the simple fact that I could proudly wear it out in public was quite the accomplishment for me. I used Merrick’s 30 Minute DIY Kimono Cardigan tutorial to make it, and while I’m slightly (okay, maybe more than slightly) embarrassed at the number of 30 minute increments it took me to actually make it, I’m totally happy with the result. This fabric is so soft, and the cardigan is so comfortable. I can’t wait to figure out more ways to style it! Here I just kept it simple. But sometimes simple is best, right?

SHERLACY | sometimes you need a little neon

//sometimes you need a little neon//

I feel like all I’ve been wearing lately is blue (which is probably why I’m able to make a whole style series out of it), so a couple weekends ago when I went out to the farmer’s market, my only outfit criteria was that it couldn’t be all blue. This neon striped top seemed like the perfect solution, and paired with my favorite green statement necklace, I think it’s the perfect warm weather color combo! Normally I tend to go for some type of skinny jean or jegging, but when I found these old jeans from way back before I got married, I just had to try them on. And you know what? They fit! Much to my surprise, I must say. Sometimes it’s nice to mix it up from the standard go-to’s. And sometimes you just need a little neon.

Monochrome outfits have been one of my biggest style obsessions lately. I’m all about choosing a color and making a tone-on-tone outfit using it. I’ve noticed myself really gravitating towards the color blue in the last few months, so this Summer I’m going to do a whole series about blue Summer outfits. (With some gray thrown in here and there.) For my first outfit in this series I went with a really simple combination that is one of my go-to’s lately. I’m one of those girls who finds something they love and then wants it in every single color and pattern it comes in. This top is definitely one of those items! I’m all about easy, comfortable pieces that still look chic and pulled together. It is easily one of the most comfortable tops I own, and it doesn’t take any fancy styling or tucking. A simple throw-and-go piece– I would have bought every single one if I could have! A skinny belt strategically placed adds a little bit of structure to an otherwise flowy top, and still it’s super comfortable.
