:: fresh air WILL do you some good ::

One day last week the weather was unseasonably cool for July in Indiana, so my mom and I took Everett for his first trip to the state park. He loved strolling through the village, and it was the most relaxed he’d been in days…hallelujah! Some fresh air definitely did my little babe some good, because he took an amazing nap once we got home…once again, hallelujah! I love Everett more than life itself, but he has been such a handful lately, so it was a welcome change to see him in such a good mood. I think he’s going to grow up loving the outdoors like his daddy. (As long as he’s in the shade…my vampire child hates the sun!)

:: summer blues | outfit #4 ::

Surprisingly, this summer blues outfit isn’t made up of solely the color blue! This cool-toned combo is perfect for an outfit that requires little styling or planning. These easy pieces are great summer staples for me, because when I want to wear something that has some visual interest but don’t want to think about pattern mixing and new color combos, this graphic tee is my go-to. Plus, I love pieces that I can get tons of use out of. This tee has been part of my mama uniform, but it’s also been dressed up for date night. This really has me thinking…more graphic tees just may be in my fashion future.

Okay I’m going to be real with you. It took me forever and a day just to decide whether or not to post these outfit pictures. Because quite frankly, I’m not a fan. Sometimes I have those days where my clothes feel weird, my hair won’t lay right, or my face just seems like it’s doing something strange. When I went through the pictures of this outfit, I realized this was apparently one of those days. Please tell me I’m not the only one and this happens to you, too. It does, right?? But I love the skirt so much I just had to share it now. Remember in this post when I mentioned my mother-in-law helping me transform one of my old dresses into a skirt? Well here it is. I could not love this print any more than I already do! While all of these pieces are older items, I hope you can draw some inspiration from the floral + feminine vibe.

:: my latest work of art ::

Everett hates sleep. Really truly hates it. This makes things exhausting around here. It’s not that anyone minds when he’s awake. We love to play with him, make him laugh, and watch him learn and grow. But here’s the thing– when Everett gets tired, he turns into the angriest baby I’ve ever seen. Not just fussy…angry. I didn’t know babies knew how to yell, but mine sure does. When he gets angry, he yells. He doesn’t cry…just screams at the top of his lungs. And boy does that baby have some serious lung power. It amazes me, and the high pitch he can reach sends shivers down my spine and makes my hair stand on end. So a typical day with Everett looks something like this (from his point of view):

7:00a- wake up in a wonderful mood, get diaper changed, get dressed, eat

8:00a- play and laugh and make funny noises

9:00a- start  to get tired

9:01a- begin fighting sleep (aka begin kicking my legs furiously just to try to keep myself awake)

9:10a- start yelling to avoid falling asleep

9:15a- MUST. NOT. FALL. ASLEEP.

9:20a- slowly begin to doze…

9:27a- startle suddenly and begin wailing at the top of my lungs

9:35a- fall asleep

10:30a- “I’M UP! I’M UP! MOM YOU CAN COME AND GET ME NOW, I’M UP!”

11:00a- eat

11:15a- play

12:00p- start yawning and rubbing my eyes, because I didn’t take a very long morning nap

12:15p- take any measures necessary to keep from falling into sleep’s trap again

12:20p- kick legs and just make any noise I can think of…anything to avoid sleep

1:00p- fall asleep

1:25p- startle myself awake and cry until my mom gives me my pacifier

1:30p- fall back asleep

2:12p- “MOM I NEED MY PACIFIER AGAIN!”

2:15p- fall back into a light sleep

2:23p- “MOM I’M UP AND NOW IT’S FOR GOOD, YOU BETTER COME GET ME RIGHT NOW!”

2:25p- “MOM CAN YOU HEAR ME? I SAID I’M UP!!!!!!!!”

2:30p- eat

2:45p- whine

3:00p- rub my eyes and yawn

3:15p- screech at  the top of my lungs for a good half an hour

3:45p- cry for a while, because screeching made me more tired than I already am

4:00p- kick and scream and cry and yell

4:15p- keep fighting sleep

4:30p- spend the next 3 hours screaming and crying because I’m so tired, until my daddy holds me while walking up and down the hall until I surrender to sleep in his arms

Now, just in case that didn’t paint enough of a picture for you…I present my latest work of art. :: summer blues | outfit #3 ::

In honor of the upcoming holiday this weekend, today’s outfit post is inspired by the 4th of July! I’ve been so obsessed with blue lately (as you know if you’ve been following this series), and I could hardly think of a better occasion to go completely overboard with it. The stars on this tee add an extra patriotic touch, I think. The funny thing about this tee is that it’s actually maternity. I learned while I was pregnant that Gap’s only real criteria to consider something a “maternity” piece was basically adding a little extra length. Or some gathering on the sides. None of the Gap maternity pieces I purchased even fit all the way through my 2nd trimester. But hey, I can wear them post-pregnancy without looking pregnant, so I guess that’s still a win. The extra length on this tee makes it perfect for knotting at the waist which has been one of my favorite ways to wear my tops this summer, and I’ve found that cute little tees are perfect for mom-on-the-go outfits!
